Some customers are in a hurry for the delivery of magnets and magnetic components and will consider shipping by air. However, magnetic items can interfere with aircraft navigation and control systems, which can be very dangerous during an airline flight!
According to the relevant provisions of IATA DGR, if the maximum magnetic field strength at any point 2.1m (7ft) from the outer surface of the package is less than 0.159A/m (200nT), the item is not restricted as magnetic material and can be received and shipped as general cargo. Magnetic inspection is required for items with magnetic properties. In order for goods with magnets or magnetic components to pass magnetic inspection, magnetic isolation packaging is required to shield the product's magnetic field to meet general cargo acceptance requirements.
In general, the vast majority of NdFeB magnet and component manufacturers, put their magnet products in conventional cartons with iron on the 6 inner walls of the carton to shield the magnetic field. However, sometimes, NdFeB magnet products are too large, magnetic energy or magnetic field is too high, the carton of this magnetic insulation packaging can not shield the magnetic field. Recently, our company has shipped high performance magnet products by air, so we put the magnetized carton into a large wooden box and put iron on the inside of the six wooden boxes to shield the magnets. Through the secondary magnetic insulation treatment, the residual magnetic field outside the entire wooden box is significantly lower than the 0.159A/m (200nT) required for general cargo air transport.
